What is qualitative & quantitative research?
Qualitative research uses data collection methods that focus on non-numerical data, such as interviews, survey groups, and observation. The focus is often on the experiences of a limited number of individuals to a situation or occurrence.
Quantitative research focused on numerical data, collected through methods including surveys and data collection/analysis. The focus is often on specific outcomes for a large group or section of the population.
To help decide whether a journal article uses qualitative or quantitative research, read the abstract as this summarises the entire article and may describe the data collection method used. To help decide further, read the article’s method section to find out how data was collected.
