How do I search the catalogue using the 'Advanced Search' option?
Advanced Search: a guided search template that helps you combine keywords found anywhere in the record or in specific record areas eg titles, names or subjects.
Advanced Search is useful if you are looking for specific items, but you may not know or precise search strategies to combine or exclude search words or phrases.
1. Go to the search bar at the top of TAFE Queensland Library Network website homepage: https://library.tafeqld.edu.au/quickfind
2. Type a keyword into the search field and hit enter. Click on the words Advanced Search underneath the search box on the right-hand side. You will now have the advance search template in view.
3. Prepare a list of search terms that may be relevant in this country, or internationally. In the list include variations in spelling. eg. blood discoloration/discolouration, denture/dentures, phrases "tooth discoloration by blood"
4. Decide if you wish to do a broad search or a narrow search. eg. A narrow search would be a 'title' search. A broad search would be an 'all text' search.
5. Use the drop-down menu on the right-hand side labelled 'All fields' and select the given field you want to search. You can add more fields if you need to. Click enter and view the results.
6. Ask for help if you are not able to find what you are looking for. Ask for a TAFE Queensland Library Network librarian to provide more training on this advanced search method, or if you need help developing a search plan.
Hint: Too many results suggest the search may be too broad. Tip: filter by date, subject (results over 50 suggest the search is not quite right; under 50 is more manageable)
Hint: Not enough results suggest the search is too narrow. Tip: change to keyword search; or change keywords or revise keywords in your plan.
